African Fire Finch

We run a small colony of 3 pairs in each of our two aviaries. They are a great little finch and very peaceful even when they have a nest of young ones. They will dote over their young and are excellent parents.

They are always active and will readily nest in the indoor or out door area as long a plenty of brush is provided. They will make their own compact little nests if fertilised small white feathers and swap grass is provided. They will also utilise a small wicker basket type nest if provided although ours always prefer to build their own nest in the brush that we strap to the walls using black plastic cable ties.

They have a lovely song like all the small finches. As they forage in the grass and dirt make sure you have a regular 3 monthly worming plan. They are a very hardy finch here in our Melbourne climate.
